Participants will learn how Design Thinking can actively engage students in their communities through an authentic Project-Based Learning experience. The presenter will share real experiences and examples of how Design Thinking has been used. The approaches presented will focus on community outreach, which involves stakeholders in the community providing meaningful feedback to help students solve complex problems. Students are empowered by conducting action research in their community with Design Thinking as their guide. Students experience mentorship to work through solving a problem and then receive feedback from experts in particular fields. The nature of these learning experiences is cross-curricular. It is designed to teach entrepreneurship, which includes communication, teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, initiative and enterprise, self-management, and learning by breaking down the four walls of the classroom. Moreover, the session will have footage from a Project-based learning Case Study done by Kami that will allow participants to hear from real students who experienced Design Thinking in the classroom.
