Going beyond Holland's RIASEC: A Dialogic Approach to Career Learning
Saturday August 24, 2024 9:40am - 10:40am PDT
TBA
A decade ago, a team of educators, counselors, and HR professionals inspired the use of Holland’s RIASEC by incorporating it as a language to be used with students in a career-exploration makerspace called the Thinkabit Lab. Over three years, the RIASEC gained attention among educators, which led to a theory of action for using the taxonomy as the center of the career development framework in Cajon Valley Schools. Today, the idea of creating a common language of career and developing a career-curious school community is gaining the attention of school leaders across a wide range of districts in the United States. This presentation shares knowledge from integrating the RIASEC in the instructional core and the innovative ways the common language, and dialogic approaches, are being used by departments of education, school districts, workforce boards, and education service centers to help every child own their path to gainful employment.
